Troon has announced it will manage the Max A. Mandel Municipal Golf Course in Laredo, Texas. Indigo Sports, a Troon company, will oversee golf operations, agronomy, sales and marketing for the daily-fee golf facility, which was previously managed by Landscapes Golf Management.

This story was originally reported by Golf Inc. magazine.

Designed by Robert Trent Jones II and owned by the city of Laredo, the course is known as The Max. It cuts through 270 acres of sandy, rugged Texas terrain with four holes playing along the Rio Grande and six playing through deep arroyos.

The course, which opened in 2012, is named for Max A. Mandel, a Laredo banker and civic leader whose family donated the land.

“Partnering with the city of Laredo, we have already overseeded the greens with Poa trivialis and ryegrass, which will have them in excellent condition by mid-November,” interim general manager Robbie Kearney said a few months ago. “Long term, our agronomy team is taking steps to ensure guests enjoy consistent and sustainable playing conditions year round.”

The municipal venue includes Las Islitas Grill and the Max Mandel Event Center, which hosts weddings, receptions and special events throughout the year.
