SOUTHERN PINES, NORTH CAROLINA (January 31, 2015) — Pine Needles and Mid Pines golf courses, two Donald Ross classics, have been rated in the top 25 of Golfweek Magazine’s top 100 resort courses in the USA. The popular North Carolina resort is one of only five U.S. resorts with more than one course that was highly rated.

“We are honored that our two great courses were recognized among the nation’s elite,” said Kelly Miller, the Pine Needles/Mid Pines president. “This is a mark of distinction that makes us proud of what we have to offer to the golfing public.”

In the annual poll, Mid Pines was ranked 18th and Pine Needles was 22nd.

Pacific Dunes was cited as the nation’s number one resort course. Pebble Beach was second, and Pinehurst No. 2, another Ross masterpiece, was third.

The other resorts with two courses in the top 25 were Pebble Beach, Bandon Dunes, Whistling Straits, and Streamsong.

Ross, the famed Scottish architect, designed Mid Pines in 1921 and Pine Needles in 1928. The Mid Pines course was renovated recently and was named in 2013 as the best resort course renovation by Golf Magazine. Pine Needles has hosted three USGA Women’s Open championships in 1996, 2001 and 2007

Both courses are open to the public, resort guests and members.
