MULTI-PHASE REVITALIZATION AT THE KILLEARN CLUB CONTINUES WITH 9-HOLE CLOVER COURSE

TALLAHASSEE, Florida —  The renovation work at the newly reimagined Killearn Club, a private golf club in Tallahassee FL, is now in its second year with the construction of the nine-hole Clover course (formerly the North/Narrows course), well underway.

Golf Course Architect Christopher Wilczynski, ASGCA, was hired for the project in 2022 by club-owner and tech entrepreneur David Cummings, a Tallahassee native who is responsible for the multi-million-dollar club revitalization to restore the landmark’s golf and social experience.

Wilczynski’s master plans have been guiding the comprehensive renovation of the golf facilities, including the addition of the Clover course, the redesigned 18-hole Camellia course (slated to open later this summer), as well as major upgrades to the practice areas.

Over the next year, plans for the all-new clubhouse and restaurant, tennis and pickleball courts, pool, and other upscale amenities will be finalized, with construction to commence in the coming months.

“As a child growing up in Killearn, we would exclusively play the North/Narrows course due to its availability and kid-friendly nature. Now, with the new Clover course, it’s the ultimate family-friendly golf outing. I’m excited for the next generation of golfers to develop their love of golf on the Clover,” said Cummings.

Highlights of the Clover include:

  • Five, par-3 holes of varying lengths and four, short par-4 holes
  • Walking only (1-1.5-hour round)
  • Three tees at each hole to provide accessibility for all golfers
  • Narrow tree-lined fairways that will require precise iron play
  • Smaller greens with strategically placed bunkers and hollows
  • New and improved drought tolerant TifTuf® Bermudagrass
  • New irrigation system and enhanced drainage

“My vision for the Clover was to create short, fun and accessible holes that would complement the Championship Camellia course and provide players with a totally unique golfing experience,” Wilczynski stated. “The holes on this course are short so we took some creative risks with the design elements to give golfers the opportunity to challenge their shot-making skills. I think it’s going to be an exciting and popular component to the reimagined club,” he added.

MacCurrach Golf Construction of Jacksonville, Florida continues to execute construction with Aqua Turf International, responsible for the redesigned irrigation system.

Construction is expected to conclude in May.
