Woods was introduced to golf by her grandfather, Earl Woods (Tiger Woods’ father). “My grandpa introduced me to golf and got me my first set of clubs,” said Woods. “Watching Tiger and knowing success was possible was really inspiring for me.”
At last year’s clinic, when asked by a young participant about overcoming adversity as an African American and a woman, Cheyenne credited the character development golf has given her, saying “Once you have a really strong identity, who you are, what you stand for – and why you belong – that can carry you wherever you want to go.”
As a professional, Woods is a two-time tournament winner, including the 2014 Volvik RACV Ladies Masters on the Ladies European Tour. As an ambassador for golf, she is helping usher in the next generation of golfers, combining her family’s storied golf history and love of the game to inspire diverse representation and inclusion.
“Representation can happen in so many ways – not just the color of your skin, but what city you’re from, or what religion you are and so much more. Kids and fans connect to the simplest things, so if we have a broad range of representation, we can truly grow the game,” added Woods, who is married to Major League Baseball player Aaron Hicks.
Woods, a 30-time tournament winner as an amateur, graduated from Wake Forest University after a stellar collegiate career, during which she twice earned All-American honors and won the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championships in 2011.
