Campbell, Clemens and star-studded celebrity lineup return to Tempest Golf Club for third annual East Texas Celebrity Open
GLADEWATER, Texas — East Texas legend, Pro Football Hall of Famer and Heisman Trophy winner Earl Campbell will headline a star-studded roster of sports greats at Tempest Golf Club for the third consecutive year at the East Texas Celebrity Open benefiting the Texas Warriors on Tuesday, May 12.
The four-man charity scramble begins at 10 a.m. at the par-72 championship course, which has quickly become one of the most celebrated venues in Texas golf. Tempest recently hosted the Texas Super Senior State Championship, the Texas Four-Ball, and a U.S. Amateur qualifier.
Campbell, the former John Tyler High School football star, won the Heisman Trophy at the University of Texas and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame following a legendary career with the Houston Oilers.
He will be joined at Tempest by an all-star lineup spanning football, baseball, and basketball: fellow University of Texas great and Major League Baseball legend Roger Clemens; Dallas Cowboys icons Drew Pearson, Everson Walls, and Billy Joe DuPree; NBA great Dominique Wilkins; former Houston Oilers quarterback and Pro Football Hall of Famer Warren Moon; baseball greats Jose Canseco and Rafael Palmeiro; and White Oak native and former NFL wide receiver Mike Renfro.
“Hosting this caliber of athletes at Tempest for the third straight year is a tremendous source of pride for our club and our community,” said Jason Crews, General Manager of Tempest Golf Club. “This event brings together some of the biggest names in sports for a great cause, and there’s no better setting for it than right here in East Texas.”
The day begins with breakfast followed by a 10 a.m. shotgun start on Tempest’s Jeffrey Brauer-designed championship layout, which rolls across nearly 200 feet of elevation change through the scenic Piney Woods. Following play, participants will enjoy lunch, a silent auction, cash prizes for first through third place, and a cocktail reception and dinner.
