CINCINNATI RECREATION COMMISSION GOLF COURSES LAUNCH ‘BETTER GOLF IN PROGRESS’ IMPROVEMENT INITIATIVE ACROSS SIX FACILITIES

CINCINNATI, Ohio – A major reinvestment in public golf is underway across the six Cincinnati Recreation Commission golf facilities as part of a new initiative focused on enhancing course conditions, operational efficiencies, and the overall guest experience.

The capital improvements at the CRC courses are being self-funded by each golf course, with no tax dollars or outside donations used to fund the projects.

The Cincinnati Recreation Commission golf courses are managed by Indigo Golf, a Troon Company, and include Avon Fields Golf Course, California Golf Course, Glenview Golf Course, Neumann Golf Course, Reeves Golf Course and Woodland Golf Course.

The multi-million investment into the golf courses is part of the CRC’s “Better Golf in Progress” campaign which will take place over the next three-plus years.

This spring, the clubhouse restrooms at California Golf Course will be renovated and modernized to enhance guest comfort and improve operations. The 2026 season also brings significant upgrades across the CRC portfolio, including a new fleet of golf carts and expanded cart inventory at all six courses to better meet peak demand.

Behind the scenes, investments in agronomy operations include upgraded maintenance equipment—such as mowers, rollers, earthwork machinery, trucks, and lithium-powered utility vehicles—ensuring teams have the tools needed to maintain high-quality playing conditions.

During the upcoming 2026 golf season, Woodland Golf Course and Neumann Golf Course will install new irrigation systems that will help reduce water usage by 20 percent. Modern irrigation systems play a critical role in sustaining healthy turf, improving course consistency, and supporting responsible water management practices. Once completed, golfers can expect improved playing conditions and enhanced overall course presentation.

“Upgrading irrigation infrastructure is one of the most impactful improvements a golf facility can make,” said Rick Gullion, Regional Superintendent for Troon. “The new systems will provide greater control, efficiency, and water management capabilities for our agronomy teams.

“In a region like the Ohio River Valley, where weather patterns can change quickly, this technology helps us maintain healthier turf while also reducing water consumption and protecting surrounding environmental resources.”

All of the golf courses will remain open during project work, with golf operations continuing as scheduled. City and Indigo Sports teams have coordinated construction efforts to minimize disruption to players, and only minor temporary adjustments are anticipated during select phases of work.

2026 improvements represent the first phase of a broader multi-year capital improvement plan. Additional investments are scheduled for 2027, including Avon Fields Golf Course receiving a full irrigation system renovation, continuing the CRC’s long-term strategy to strengthen course infrastructure and playing conditions across all facilities.

“These investments reflect our long-term commitment to providing exceptional public golf while preserving these courses as important outdoor recreational spaces for our community,” said CRC Supervisor of Golf Rob Higby. “Our goal is to make meaningful improvements today that benefit golfers for many years to come.”

The improvement initiative reinforces CRC’s ongoing mission to preserve accessible golf opportunities while enhancing course sustainability, operational performance, and player experience across its Cincinnati portfolio.
