2023 tournament generated more than $1.1 million for charitable beneficiaries, Dell Children’s and First Tee

AUSTIN, Texas – Tournament officials announced reently that the 2023 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play contributed more than $1.1 million to charitable beneficiaries, Dell Children’s and First Tee-Greater Austin, from its final playing at Austin Country Club in March.

The new contributions bring the all-time charitable giving total to more than $7 million since the event moved to Austin Country Club in 2016, which includes a $400,000 donation from the 2020 event that was canceled due to COVID-19. Funds were directed to special programming for students of First Tee and the creation of the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play Signature Room at the Blood and Cancer Center at Dell Children’s.

“It is truly humbling to see the charitable impact the tournament was able to have within the community and to have spent one final tournament week honoring and highlighting our beneficiaries,” said Vice President and Executive Director Jordan Uppleger.

“Hosting a PGA TOUR event always delivers fun and excitement to a city, but so much of it boils down to giving back to the communities where we play. Our team is beyond proud of the more than $7 million legacy we’ll leave behind, and it wouldn’t have been possible without our fans, volunteers, partners and especially Dell Technologies.”

Throughout the 2023 tournament, Dell Technologies Match Play celebrated and honored its charitable beneficiaries in a number of ways. To kick off the week, Dell Technologies and Dell Children’s hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to unveil the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play Signature Room at the Blood and Cancer Center Speciality Pavilion, a project that was supported by the tournament’s annual charitable donation to Dell Children’s.

The program was developed to help philanthropic supporters provide joy to a child’s otherwise difficult day in the exam rooms, which see up to 800 families per year.

“Dell Technologies brought Match Play to Austin eight years ago with the sole intention of giving back to our hometown community,” said Liz Matthews, Senior Vice President of Global Brand at Dell Technologies. “A unifying and celebratory event that strengthened our youth, parks, healthcare, education, and so much more – this tournament reflected everything that is quintessentially Austin, and we’re grateful to the PGA TOUR and Austin Country Club for helping bring our mission to life.”

Last week, the tournament recognized two special kids from both First Tee and Dell Children’s by providing a VIP experience at the tournament. Jackson Lundquist, a cancer patient at Dell Children’s, has had a long road of treatment in his short life.

An avid golf fan, Jackson and his parents were able to visit Austin Country Club and meet Jackson’s favorite player, Jordan Spieth. Later that day, Danica Lundgren, a longtime member of First Tee – Greater Austin who plays on the Vandegrift High School Women’s Golf Team was also treated to a VIP day and gifted a meet-and-greet with her favorite golfer, Collin Morikawa, who shared priceless advice for her golf game.
