HOUSTON – John Ellett of Austin, Jeff Hansen of Glen Rose, Dan Matheson of Austin, Jake McCullough of Odessa, Delia Nava of The Woodlands, and Gordon Wagner of Sugar Land, Texas have each been elected to serve on the Texas Golf Hall of Fame Board of Directors. 

In addition, Reid Meyers of San Antonio, Texas and Anacortes, Wash., was elected to serve a 3rd term as Chairman of the Board, a volunteer group of 21 people that provides strategic and financial oversight as the Association’s policymaking and governance. The changes coincide with board members Stuart Bernstein, Courtney Connell, PGA, and Craig Felton completing their term.  

“I’m excited to have these six incredibly talented individuals joining the Texas Golf Hall of Fame Board,” said Chairman Reid Meyers. “Their vision, experience and passion for the history of our game will be tremendous assets for the organization.” 

John Ellett

John Ellett is an internationally acclaimed author and expert on the role of CMOs as marketing change agents. His book, The CMO Manifesto: A 100-Day Action Plan for Marketing Change Agents, has been heralded as “a must read” for marketing leaders taking on new roles. He is a contributor to Forbes CMO Network, and he advises CEOs and CMOs on growth strategies and organization transformation as CEO of The Ellett Group.  

Ellett was the senior marketing leader for Dell North America, where he helped the tech company grow from $60M to $3B in seven years. He was an advertising and communications leader for IBM’s first and second generation of PCs where he worked on the iconic Charlie Chaplin campaign. He is a founding director and past board chair of First Tee Greater Austin and founder and chair of Austin Helps Honduras, which was formed after Hurricane Mitch to build 75 homes for victims of the disaster in Juticalpa. 

Jeff Hansen

Jeff Hansen graduated from Montana State University and upon graduation moved to San Antonio to pursue his golf course maintenance career. Jeff has spent the last 29 years at Squaw Valley Golf Course in Glen Rose where he as has served as assistant golf course superintendent, golf course superintendent and as general manager since 2020.  Jeff is a member of North Texas Golf Course Superintendents Association and a 25-year member of the Texas Turfgrass Association.  

He has served on the board of directors, and most recently as President, of the Lone Star Golf Course Superintendents Association. Jeff has served as a Trustee on the Glen Rose ISD school board, coached the Glen Rose Youth Baseball Association, and served on the Glen Rose Rodeo Association board.

Dan Matheson

Matheson is a founder and principal of the Austin law firms of Matheson Keys & Kordzik, PLLC and Matheson Law Partners, PLLC.  He has extensive experience in a wide array of business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, “angel” and institutional venture capital investment transactions, private equity syndications, bank financing transactions, and public-private partnerships.

Dan currently serves as a director of the First Tee of Greater Austin, a member of the Board of Directors of National Security Innovation Council, the University of Texas at Austin College of Liberal Arts Advisory Council, and a member of the Community Advisory Board of Caritas of Austin.  He formerly served as a Member and Chairman of the Board of Regents of the Texas State University System, Chairman of the Mental Health Association in Texas, and as a director of numerous other state and community organizations.  

Jake McCullough

Jake McCullough, PGA, is the Director of Golf at Odessa Country Club and has been at the Club for 16 with his first position as Head Professional. Jake just completed his term as the Northern Texas PGA Section’s 30th President and served on the board since 2016 and currently serving as Honorary President. Jake has received numerous awards including Merchandiser of the Year, Bill Strausbaugh Award, Section Player Development, Youth Player Development and most recently he received the 2023 Northern Texas PGA Golf Professional of the Year Award.  Jake has served on the Board of Directors for the West Texas Chapter of the PGA and was President in 2017-2018. In addition to serving as a PGA Jr. League coach and conducting PGA Hope clinics to foster the game, Jake participates in many fundraising endeavors including Birdies for Kids, the Ewing Charity Classic and the NTPGA Foundation’s Capital Campaign to elevate golf not only in West Texas but across the NTPGA Section. 

Delia Nava

Originally from Mexico City, Mexico, Nava obtained a Civil Engineering degree from Universidad Iberoamericana. She worked in hydraulics and hydrological projects and is a certified English-Spanish interpreter. She served as President of Mexican Women’s Golf Association (AMFG) and is a founding member of the Mexican National Rules Committee. In 2005, she moved to Texas where she became a member of the Texas Golf Association Rules Committee and the USGA Regional Affairs Committee.

She has officiated over forty USGA Championships including U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open, U.S. Amateur, U.S. Women’s Amateur, Curtis Cup and Latin American Amateur Championship. Additionally, she has officiated at the 2015 Toronto Pan-American games, Rio 2016 Olympics, and six World Amateur Team Championships as well as NCAA Women’s Championships. She is a current member of the USGA Rules of Golf Committee and been instrumental in translating the Rules of Golf in Spanish. 

Gordon Wagner 

Gordon Wagner, CCM, has spent his entire professional career in the club management industry including roles with public golf, resort, and private country clubs in multiple states.  After several years running day to day operations as a General Manager, he worked for 20+ years in a multi-unit leadership capacity as Vice-President of Operations for three different club management owner/operators.  

Since 2009, Gordon has served the members of Sugar Creek Country Club as their General Manager/CEO.  Gordon is a Certified Club Manager from the Club Management Association of America (CMAA) and is immediate Past President of the Texas Lone Star Chapter of the Club Management Association of America.
