Former Longhorn caps one of the best seasons in PGA TOUR history with his seventh victory of the year
ATLANTA, Georgia — Former University of Texas star Scottie Scheffler posted a 4-under 67 on Sept. 1 to win the TOUR Championship at East Lake Golf Club. By virtue of his victory at the TOUR Championship, Scheffler claimed his first career FedExCup title.
Scheffler posted his seventh PGA TOUR win of the season, becoming the first golfer to win seven times in a single season since Tiger Woods earned seven victories in 2007.
Included in his seven victories this year are a major championship (his second Masters title) and The PLAYERS Championship, as he became the first player to win the TOUR’s flagship event in back-to-back years.
Scheffler also claimed four signature events: the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the RBC Heritage, the Travelers and the Memorial. In addition to his dominance on the PGA TOUR, Scheffler also won the gold medal in the Paris Olympics men’s golf competition.
Entering Sunday’s final round with a five-stroke advantage, Scheffler sealed the win with a 4-under 32 on the back nine that included an eagle on the par-five 14th hole. He finished the tournament with a total score of 30-under, besting runner-up Collin Morikawa by four shots.
Scheffler earned $25 million by capturing the FedExCup. This pushed his season earnings, including bonuses, to just over $62.3 million.
This also marked the eighth PGA TOUR event won by a former University of Texas player during the 2024 calendar year. In addition to Scheffler’s seven victories this season, Jhonattan Vegas earned the win at the 3M Open.
The win marked the 106th official PGA TOUR victory for The University of Texas Men’s Golf program, accomplished by 17 different individuals in the 98-year history of the TOUR.
