GLADEWATER, Texas – For the third consecutive year, Tempest Golf Club, the East Texas golfing gem, located just two hours east of Dallas-Fort World has been named the “best outlying course” in the region by Avid Golfer Magazine for its combination of beauty, variety, fun and value.

The prestigious North Texas golf lifestyle magazine selected the Jeff Brauer designed par 72 renovation, which reopened in 2018, for the honor, over numerous public and private course outside the immediate Dallas-Fort Worth area.

“We’re certainly thrilled that Tempest Golf Club continues to be recognized as the top golf facility outside the Dallas-Fort Worth area,” said Tempest general manager Jason Crews. “This aligns perfectly with our vision for Tempest, a premier course maintained in exceptional condition and a welcoming destination for golf and good times.

“Rankings like these stand as a testament to the hard work and dedication of Ken Bowman and his staff, whose efforts have made this vision possible.”

The November Issue of Avid Golfer highlights many of Tempest exceptional qualities noting: “The course offers stay and play packages which are budget friendly.”

The course recently underwent turf additions which only made this already wonderful piece of property better.

Tempest has hosted a wide variety of amateur competitions, including the 2025 Texas Four-Ball Championship, and a number of USGA and Texas Golf Association events. It has also welcomed college and high school competitions and several large charity outings.

Known for its fun and challenging layout, Tempest is also recognized for its iconic American Flag behind the ninth green, the largest between Dallas and Shreveport and the third largest in the state.

Avid Golfer praised Tempest as “a great little day trip”, adding “Tempest is a must play and certainly worth the short drive.“

I’m especially glad they mentioned our stay and play packages which we have worked hard to spotlight this year,” said longtime director of golf Randy Wade. “Combining premium golf with modern lodging, and Neptune’s Grille + Bar where everybody really does know your name, makes this a great golf destination and an honor to be No. 1 again.”
