PALMYRA, Virginia – Lake Monticello Golf Course in Palmyra has been recognized as one of Virginia’s top golf courses in GolfPass’ Top 25 Public Golf Courses in Virginia – Golfers’ Choice 2025 rankings.

The Buddy Loving-designed course placed third in the annual state ranking that is driven by reviews and ratings by golfers.

More than 1,900 reviews by everyday golfers were used to determine the annual Golfers’ Choice rankings with GolfPass’ Ratings Index logic to weigh recent reviews and course subcategory averages. The recognition of Lake Monticello highlights the property’s exceptional course designs, outstanding playing conditions and value.

“Great course…We were pleasantly impressed with the price and great condition of the course,” said one GolfPass Reviewer about Lake Monticello Golf Course.

“Being named among Virginia’s best public courses reflects our commitment to top-notch facilities, outstanding course conditions, and the unforgettable rounds enjoyed here,” said Lake Monticello Golf Course Head Golf Professional Mark Marshall. “We’re proud to be a premier golf destination and grateful to all who helped make this recognition possible.”

Open since 1972, Lake Monticello Golf Course takes full advantage of the natural contours and rolling landscape of the Virginia countryside. The 6,930-yard course is open year-round and features predominantly Bermuda grass on the tees and fairways, with well-manicured bent grass greens.

The property’s Bunker Bistro offers breakfast, lunch and dinner service and has a calendar packed with live music, food theme nights and family-friendly events.
