PASADENA, California – Annandale Golf Club has officially begun construction on a comprehensive renovation-restoration of its historic golf course, with completion of construction anticipated in spring 2026.

The restoration, inspired by the timeless design work of William P. Bell from the 1920s, will honor the club’s architectural heritage while enhancing playability, sustainability, and beauty for future generations.

The project is being led by Todd Eckenrode – Origins Golf Design, known for its thoughtful, historically grounded restorations that respect classic design intent while integrating modern agronomic and environmental best practices.

Construction is being executed by LaBar Golf Renovations, one of the nation’s premier golf course builders, with Gradoville & Hertzing Management Group overseeing all aspects of project coordination and implementation.

Originally founded in 1906, Annandale Golf Club holds a revered place in California golf history as one of the state’s earliest private clubs. The current routing, extended up into the far-reaching canyons beneath the San Gabriel Mountains in 1924, was crafted from the original design of William Watson by the legendary William P. Bell.

Bell’s routing and strategic artistry established Annandale as a benchmark for Southern California golf. Over the decades, the course has evolved, yet Bell’s spirit will now continue to define its character.

The scope of work is comprehensive-encompassing all new tees, greens, bunkers, fairways, irrigation, grassing and select turf-reduction-to reestablish the integrity and intent of Bell’s original design.

A specific focus will be on re-establishing the much-heralded natural drainage swales and network of Bell’s original design.

The restoration aims to revive Annandale’s classic shot values, visual drama, and natural flow while ensuring the course meets the expectations of today’s players, environmental and maintenance standards.

“This project represents a rare and exciting opportunity to restore one of William P. Bell’s most beautiful designs,” said Todd Eckenrode, Principal of Origins Golf Design. “Annandale’s history, setting, and membership make it a truly special place, and we are honored to help bring its classic features back to life.”
