PAWLEY’S ISLAND, SC — Continuing a banner year, Caledonia Golf & Fish Club is proud to announce its inclusion on “Golfweek’s Best 2025: Top 100 Public-Access Courses in the U.S.” list, reaffirming its place among the nation’s premier public layouts.

Golfweek’s Best rankings are compiled by a panel of more than 800 raters from around the world. Panelists evaluate courses based on 10 specific criteria, each scored on a 10-point scale.

In addition, they submit a single overall rating (also on a 10-point scale), which is averaged annually to produce a final ranking.

The evaluation criteria include routing, integrity of design, quality of shaping, overall land use, greens and surrounds, variety and memorability of par 3s, 4s, and 5s, tree and landscape management, conditioning and ecology, and the “walk in the park” test.

Designed by the legendary Mike Strantz, Caledonia is equal parts artistry and architecture, playing through a beautiful piece of South Carolina Lowcountry land. Fairways are framed by majestic live oak trees draped in Spanish moss and complemented by scenic marsh views.

The course’s par 3s are among the strongest in the Myrtle Beach area, highlighted by No. 17, which is home to one of the layout’s largest greens and it’s encircled by sand.

A round at Caledonia crescendos at the iconic par-4 18th, widely regarded as one of golf’s best finishing holes. A precise tee shot on the dogleg right sets up a nerve-jangling approach over water to a green nestled in the shadow of the clubhouse, an unforgettable finish to a bucket-list round.

“This recognition from Golfweek means a great deal to our team,” said Bart Romano, director of golf operations at Caledonia and its sister course, True Blue Golf Club. “We take tremendous pride in delivering an experience that honors Mike Strantz’s vision and the natural beauty of the Lowcountry. To be ranked among the top 100 public courses in the country is incredibly rewarding, and we’re grateful to everyone who helps make Caledonia such a special place.”

The honor is the latest in a growing list of accolades for Caledonia in 2025. USA Today/10Best readers recently ranked it as the No. 4 public course in America, while Golfweek also named it one of the country’s Top 100 Resort Courses and No. 4 in South Carolina, one of golf’s most competitive states.

Just across the street sits True Blue – another Strantz masterpiece – giving golfers the chance to stay-and-play at two of America’s best courses.
