SAVANNAH, Georgia – The Landings Golf & Athletic Club will be renovating the Palmetto Course, one of six championship golf courses at the club. Bergin Golf Designs, led by Bill Bergin, has been selected to create a Master Plan and lead the course renovation.

“I am very excited with the selection of Bill Bergin and Bergin Golf Designs for the Palmetto Project. From our first interview with Bill early in 2022, he has exuded an excitement and a passion for the Palmetto course, saying, ‘The course just fits me, it fits my style, and fits my eye,’’’ said Chris Steigelman, Director of Grounds and Project Management.

“One of the most resonating keys to Bergin’s design philosophy was making the golf course more challenging for the low-handicap golfer while making it easier and more enjoyable for the high-handicap golfer,” continued Steigelman.

Bergin Golf Designs plans to address new greens and greenside bunker construction in the first phase of the project. The design will also include additional forward tee boxes and other improvements that will help enhance the popular course at The Landings Golf & Athletic Club.

Bergin played the world’s best courses as a touring PGA professional and gained an understanding of club operations and the ability of the everyday player as a teaching professional. Founding Bergin Golf Designs in 1994, Bergin has combined his strategic instincts and design experience with a dedication to detail in project management.

“Throughout our Club’s golf course architect interviews, Bill Bergin impressed the committee with not only his creativity, but also his organizational process in how he approaches the design and construction process,” said Scott Justman, Director of Golf.

“Bill brings a unique perspective to golf course design with his time on the PGA TOUR and his time as a golf professional who coached beginner and novice players. He understands the needs and desires golf course design plays in the enjoyment for players of all skill sets.”

Renovations are expected to begin in early 2023.
