Heritage Golf Group’s nationwide portfolio of private and public courses continues to grow with the acquisition of Colonial Country Club in Memphis, Tennessee. The club becomes the 43rd property under the company’s ownership.

Colonial’s crown jewel is its South Course, an 18-hole championship layout widely recognized as one of the country’s top historic courses. It has hosted more than 30 PGA Tour events, including two iconic moments in golf history: President Gerald Ford’s hole-in-one on the fifth hole — dubbed “the shot heard around the world” — and Al Geiberger’s record-breaking round of 59 during the 1977 Danny Thomas Memphis Classic.

The club also features a full-length driving range, two Bermuda grass putting greens, a short game area, six Har-Tru tennis courts, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a fitness center and a 35,000-square-foot Southern-style clubhouse.

Heritage plans to invest in a comprehensive, multimillion-dollar capital improvement plan aimed at revitalizing the clubhouse, dining venues, lifestyle amenities and overall member experience.

“Colonial is home to one of the most iconic courses in the region and we see incredible potential to elevate the rest of the club to that same standard,” said Eric Boberg, executive vice president of operations for Heritage. “Our goal is to make meaningful enhancements early on and create a modern, vibrant club that honors its historic legacy.”

The acquisition marks Heritage’s second of the year, following its purchase of The Club at Cheval in Tampa, Florida, in May.

Heritage added several properties to its portfolio in 2024, including Compass Pointe Golf Club and Magnolia Greens Golf Club in Wilmington, North Carolina; Spring Creek Golf Club in Herndon, Virginia; Oasis Golf Club in Loveland, Ohio; and Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club and Legacy Golf Club in Sarasota, Florida.
