Award-winning Canadian journalists reveal Colombia’s unexpected golf paradise and cultural treasures

BOGOTA, Colombia —  Renowned Canadian golf and travel journalists Dave and Jane Finn recently explored Colombia’s flourishing golf scene, uncovering a hidden gem in the global golf tourism market.

Their three-week journey, facilitated by leading golf tour operator Pelecanus, showcased Colombia’s potential to become a premier golf destination.

During their trip, the Finns explored the top golf courses in Bogota, Cali, the Coffee Triangle, and Medellin. They played at renowned clubs such as El Rincon, Briceño 18, La Cima, Lake House Golf Club, Farallones Golf Club, Club Campestre Armenia, and Club Campestre El Rodeo.

Beyond golf, they immersed themselves in Colombia’s vibrant culture and fine cuisine.

Dave Finn expressed his admiration, stating, “The courses in Colombia are world-class, offering a diverse range of challenges. The landscapes are breathtaking, and each course presents a unique experience.”

Jane Finn shared a surprising highlight of their trip, noting, “The Delirio salsa show in Cali was an unexpected delight. The pride and passion of the audience, as they sang along to ‘Cali Pachanguero,’ was infectious. It wasn’t just a performance; it was a celebration of culture that made us feel like we were part of something truly special.”

Colombia’s golf tourism potential is significant, boasting over 50 high-standard courses spread across diverse terrains, from the Andes mountain ranges to coastal areas.

While many of these premier courses are private, specialized operators like Pelecanus provide exclusive access for international visitors.

This unique offering, combined with Colombia’s rich culture and stunning sights, has sparked growing interest among golf enthusiasts worldwide, positioning the country as an emerging destination in the global golf tourism market.

In Dave’s words: “For seasoned golf travelers, Colombia is an intriguing new destination that most haven’t considered before. The combination of great food, friendly people, and excellent accommodations makes it unique”.

Frank Spitzer, founder of Pelecanus, states, “Colombia’s golf scene is primed for discovery. We’re excited to showcase our country’s blend of quality golf coupled with rich cultural experiences to global travelers.”
