BOGOTA, Colombia — Colombia is quietly making a name for itself in the global golf tourism scene, offering international players access to challenging courses, breathtaking landscapes, and a rich cultural experience.

With over 50 courses across diverse terrains—ranging from the high-altitude greens of Bogotá to the Caribbean shores of Cartagena—Colombia provides year-round golfing opportunities that are beginning to draw international attention.

Among the standout courses is El Rincón de Cajicá, near Bogotá, designed by Robert Trent Jones. Known for its immaculate fairways and historical significance, it was once ranked among the world’s top 50 courses. Swiss golf journalist Dino Canepa, who recently explored the country’s courses, described it as “the best golf course in Colombia and an ideal introduction to golf culture in South America.”

Equally noteworthy is Club Karibana in Cartagena, a Jack Nicklaus-designed course that meets PGA TOUR standards and offers dramatic ocean views alongside first-class amenities. Canadian golf journalist Dave Finn highlighted the Club Campestre de Farallones in Cali as a standout. “It was in pristine condition with water on almost every hole, great bunkers, and excellent caddies,” Finn noted.

Many of Colombia’s premier courses are private, requiring special arrangements to access. This is where experienced local operators like Pelecanus are leading the charge in developing Colombia’s emerging golf tourism niche.

“Colombia has extraordinary golf courses, but its potential as a global golf destination is only beginning to unfold,” said Frank Spitzer, CEO of Pelecanus. “Our mission is to bridge the gap, making these exclusive courses accessible to international players, overcoming language barriers and logistical challenges, while showcasing the country’s unmatched golfing and cultural experiences.”

Colombia’s appeal extends beyond the greens. Cities like Bogotá, Cartagena, and Medellín offer rich cultural heritage, a dynamic culinary scene, and warm hospitality.

The country’s remarkable transformation from its turbulent past has left an impression on visitors like Finn, who praised Colombia as a safe, unique destination with welcoming locals and the convenience of a similar time zone to North America.

Pelecanus, founded in 2016, is Colombia’s leading luxury golf tour operator, offering tailored itineraries and exclusive access to premier private golf clubs.
