Project to update all 18 greens on the Perry Dye-designed course remains on schedule

DENVER – Dye Designs Group, proud contributor to the Dye family’s golf course architecture legacy for more than 30 years, reports its project at South Korea’s Woo Jeong Hills Country Club remains on schedule for completion this spring.

DDG’s senior design associate Matt McGarey visited with Mr. Jongyoon Lee, President of Woo Jeong Hills, and the rest of the onsite team earlier this month to ensure shaping of the course’s 18 greens, plus two practice greens, was proceeding as planned.

An expert machine operator, McGarey assisted with some final touches to the newly contoured putting surfaces. The 30-year-old greens are also being expanded to allow for additional pin placements, while their drainage is improved as well.

This hands-on approach is a DDG hallmark. The firm prides itself on building unlimited site visits into its agreements during the design and construction phases. This helps to ensure projects are completed in a timely and fiscally responsible manner under the watchful eye of senior design associate McGarey and / or DDG’s principal architect, Cynthia Dye McGarey.

Sodding and grassing will begin in March as soon as temperatures allow. Assuming the grow-in phase goes as planned, the expectation remains that members will be able to play the golf course in late spring.

“As the new greens come out of the ground, anticipation among members is building,” said McGarey, who has 20 years of experience as a shaper and project manager on not only DDG projects, but with other acclaimed architects like Gil Hanse, Davis Love III and Bobby Weed. “They’re excited to see how our team has paid homage to the course’s significant legacy while updating it for play for decades to come.”

Owned by KOLON Industries, one of South Korea’s leading textile and chemical manufacturers, Woo Jeong Hills was designed by the late Perry Dye and opened in 1992. It is regarded as a top course in South Korea and Golf Digest previously ranked it among the World’s Greatest 100 Courses.

Woo Jeong Hills has also been the long-time host of the Asian Tour’s KOLON Korea Open.
